CHALONITIS
Graece Χαλωνῖτις, apud Strabonem, ubi de lacu Thoniti, Μετὰ δὲ τὸν μυχὸν λίμνης, εἰς βάραθρον ἐμπεσὼν ὁ ποταμὸς, καὶ πολὺν τόπον ενεχθεὶς ὑπὸ γῆς, ἀνατέλλει κατα τὴν Χαλωνῖτιν. Et Plin. l. 6. c. 27. Fungitur Chalonitis cum Ctesiphonte. ad eam pervenit Zagrus mons, ex Armenia inter Medos, Adiabenosque veniens supra Paraetacenen. Pro Chavonitide quibusdam, quam ab urbe Χαυόνα id nominis sortitam volunt. Salmas. vero utrobique, Χαλωνῖτις
retinendum esse docet, ut quae a Chavonitide diversa. Haecenim regio Mediae, illam disterminat a Media mons Zagrus. Meminit eius Isidorus quoque in Mansionibus Parthicis, Ε᾿ντεῦθεν ἡ Χαλωνῖτις, χοῖνον κά, ἐν ᾗ κῶμαιέ, ἐν αἷς ςταθμὸς, πόλιςτ δὲ ἑλληνὶς Χάλα. Ubi memorat urbem Χάλα, a qua regioni nomen. Idem paulo post, Ο῎ρος ὃ καλεῖται Ζάγρος, ὅπερ ὁρίζει τὴν Χαλωνῖτιν χώραν καὶ τὴν τῶ Μήδων. In ea Tigrim, post egressum Thonitis lacus, in cuniculos mersum, rursum erumpere facit Strabo. Quod cum circa Nymphaeum fieri dicat Plinius, inde colligere est, in Chalonitide fuisse Nymphaeum, etc. Vide Salmas. ad Solin. p. 693.
